Cash4Gold Frequently Asked Questions
Need some help? Below are the answers to questions frequently asked by our customers.
Q: How is payment of my items determined?
A: Payment is based on gold content (karat), weight, and the daily price of gold.
Q: I paid $500 for my ring. I should expect to get $500 from Cash4Gold, right?
A: Retail stores markup jewelry five, 10 and even 20 times or more. Cash4Gold pays for the “melt value” of your jewelry – that is, the value of the gold itself once it has been melted down and sent to the refinery. Craftsmanship is not a consideration when assessing value of your gold.
Q: The insurance company appraised my jewelry for $500, so I should receive $500 from Cash4Gold, right?
A: Insurance companies will appraise your jewelry based on “retail replacement value.” In other words, what will it cost to replace your jewelry if it is lost or stolen? Therefore, these appraisals do not consider the value of the gold itself and have nothing to do with payment you should expect from Cash4Gold.
Q: There is a stamp on my ring indicating “18K.” Is this reliable?
A:Unfortunately, not always. Although most countries require manufacturers to stamp the gold content of their jewelry, very few countries (including the US) enforce these laws or require an independent third party to evaluate the item. The stamp on your jewelry may be correct, but it is quite common to receive jewelry that is fraudulently stamped.
Q: What testing methods are used to determine purity of gold?
A:Upon receiving your gold, Cash4Gold testers will first look for a stamp on the jewelry made by the manufacturer indicating the karat. Testers then have three testing methods (acid/scratch test, electronic tester, and X-ray fluorescence scan) to verify the gold purity of your items. Read “How Gold is Tested” to learn more.
Q: I put in a request for a Jewelry Return Pack. When can I expect to receive it?
A: Jewelry Return Packs will go out the next business day. Delivery is determined by the speed of mail, but packs are often received in as little as three days. Allow for up to 7-10 days.
Q: I sent my Jewelry Return Pack today. When can I expect to receive payment?
A: You will need to account for the time it takes for your Pack to reach Cash4Gold and then the time it takes for your check to go from Cash4Gold to your home. Once received, most Packs are processed the same day. Due to inconsistencies in mail times, it could take up to 10-14 days for you to receive payment.
Q: What kind of gold or jewelry will you accept?
A: If you believe there is gold in your jewelry, we will accept it. Gold is found in many household electronics, but we do not process electronics or industrial scraps.
Q: Is the gold pack free?
A:Yes! Also shipping and insurance are prepaid up to $100. If you wish to insure your pack for additional value, the United States Post office can handle all requests. We recommend you increase the insurance for jewelry valued over $100.
Q: I have fine jewelry and would like some extra security in terms of packaging. Must I use my own packaging or will you supply me with extra packaging materials?
A: Our standard Jewelry Return Pack comes with a very heavy duty, DuPont Tyvek™ bag. While these bags will generally be enough for any item you wish to send us, if you have any concerns, please call customer service anytime at 1-800-241-1811 and we can assist you in determining if you need additional packaging materials.
Q: How will I know when you’ve received my gold/jewelry?
A: You can track the status of your shipment using our Secure Package Tracking feature. Once the package reaches our facility, you may call customer service at 1-800-241-1811 for an update. Most packages are processed the day they are received.
Q: What can I do if I am not satisfied with the amount I have been paid?
A: If you are not satisfied with your payment, call Customer Service at 1-800-241-1811 within 10 days of the date on the check to request your items be returned. Once we have received your check back, we will return your gold or jewelry promptly.
Q: Can I use my own packaging?
A: Please request the free Jewelry Return Pack so we can be sure to assign you a user number in our system. Unfortunately, packages that come in non-standard packaging may not be processed.
Q: Do you pay for Gem Stones?
A: Any jewelry containing diamonds will be credited back to your account and paid for on your settlement sheet. We do not pay for Semi-precious stones. We recommend that you remove these stones before sending.
Q: Some of my old gold jewelry has diamonds, or semi-precious stones, in the settings. Do I try to remove them before sending to you, or do you return them to me?
A: Any jewelry containing diamonds will be credited back to your account and paid for on your settlement sheet. Semi-precious stones will not be paid for. We recommend that you remove these stones before sending.
